Fairhope’s Finest Friday Presents

The Cottage Home

I am so excited to introduce you to this quaint boutique on the north side of town.   The Cottage Home, owned and operated by Cindy Calcote, is a feast for the eyes from the moment you walk in the store.

You’ll be transfixed by the simple beauty of the items in The Cottage Home, and that is just the way Cindy wants you to feel.  She loves to hear her customers say how calm and serene they feel while they’re in the store.

Many of the items you’ll find in the store are actually repurposed items that Cindy has personally worked on and transformed into beautiful pieces you’ll be proud to have in your home.

One of the pieces in The Cottage Home says:

Enjoy the little things in life for someday you will realize they were the big things.

Cindy works hard on all of the little things and artfully displays them, so that when you go into the store, you are presented with exactly what you’d picture the perfect beach cottage to be.  Cindy carries furniture, beautiful picture frames, light fixtures, occasional tables, and gorgeous linens.  Oh, and the rugs!  I must tell you about them!

Have you ever heard of Dash and Albert rugs?  They’ve been featured in so many publications from Better Homes and Gardens to Coastal Home to Renovation Style and House Beautiful.  They’re truly a work of art on your floor, and come in both wool and cotton.  You can purchase directly from The Cottage Home or order from one of the catalogs.  I must warn you though, if you choose to order, please plan to be there for a while!  There are many beautiful choices to be made from Dash and Albert!  You can also choose a coordinating pillow, tote bag or fabulous cotton throw to go along with your sumptious rug purchase.

And so we move on from the beautiful artwork under our feet to the tiny, delicate artwork which God has placed in the sea and Cindy has brought into her store.  Cindy supports local artisans, who produce these beautiful necklaces.  Look at the incredibly delicacy of these beauties. Lest you miss them, these are located right on the glass case in the mdidle of the store.  Don’t pass them by - they are such a treat to look at and even more fabulous to wear!  They make wonderful gifts for the person that has everything, or if you just love the beach and its treasures! (I’m in the latter category for sure!)

Aren’t these just the cutest things?  Cindy carries paintings from local artists, and I think these are just a scream!  These bathing suits would be perfect in a mudroom, bathroom, or pool house.

If you’re looking for something a little more traditional, Cindy’s got you covered there too.  Go on over and look around.  I just can’t see how in the world you’d be disappointed!

I asked Cindy to tell me the story behind her store:

I enjoy the search to find unique items to decorate our homes.

I especially enjoy finding old distressed items like windows and transforming them into beautiful unique wall art, frames, and mirrors.

I love the beach, so the shop is full of shells, seaglass, and starfish.

I love and appreciate original works of art.  We have several local artists who have shared their work with us and add yet another element of unique beauty to the shop.

I  buy American hand-crafted furnishings.

Many pieces are antiques that have been refurbished, painted, and distressed, and  I do the work myself.

I also enjoy finding new pieces that have been constructed from reclaimed wood.  I love the sense of history in the materials!

One customer paid me a great compliment that I think says a lot. ” You have great stuff, great music, and it smells wonderful!!”

That makes me so happy, because that is exactly what I was going for when I began putting together the colors and the inventory.

The Cottage Home is located across from the Coffee Loft at 462 North Section Street.  You can reach Cindy at 251-295-2636.

Cindy gets different items in all the time and since she focuses on found items and local artisans, her inventory changes all the time.  I’d recommend becoming The Cottage Home‘s fan on Facebook because she posts her new inventory there and you don’t want to miss a bit!
