Fairhope’s Finest Friday - Meet Old Tyme Feed!

by Elizabeth on July 8, 2019

I have only lived here for 10 years, but Old Tyme Feed has been a part of my life since we moved here. Mr. Christenberry, the owner, is probably one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. He’s determined to make you a happy customer, even if it means he has to order something just for you.

The store — how to describe the store — well, it’s everything a dirt-happy garden piddler could want, but if you have serious farming needs, he can certainly tend to those as well. He has a beautiful set up outside — forget about the flowers around Fairhope, just drive by Old Tyme Feed and soak up the beauty! And inside are more treasures. As you walk in the door, to your right are hand-made glass topiaries made by a local artisan. If you’ve been reading Fairhope’s Finest at all, you probably see a theme developing here….I love to feature LOCAL STUFF! We have some of the most talented, ingenious people in the world right here and I intend on showing off all their beautiful work!

Go in there, tell Cecil that you read this in Coupons Make Cents, and check out those incredible topiaries! Don’t be alarmed though if an ear-piercing shriek interrupts your conversation in a rather unceremonious way — that’s just the beautiful LOUD bird over in the corner. I think that bird has been there scaring the daylights out of little ones and delighting the older ones as long as I’ve been shopping at Old Tyme Feed.

You know I said I’d been shopping there 10 years — well, usually in 10 years you have some kind of snafu. Something happens that just doesn’t sit right with you and so many times the store just doesn’t care.

My experience…several weeks ago I bought something there that was supposed to keep cats and dogs out of my garden. Some sort of chemical that I was told “everyone” was happy with. Well, I put the stuff out, and 10 minutes later not just my cat, but the neighbors’ cat too were happily digging away in my marigolds. GRRRR. So I took the stuff back a few days later (and it was about $12 or so? and partially used!) and told them what had happened and they promptly gave me my money back. THAT’S SERVICE, folks!

A smiling face awaits your arrival at Old Tyme Feed.
